A Unique Crossroad of Romance, Serenity and Culture
February is that special time of year when we celebrate the ones we love and, for many, it is also a time for reflection and exploration. In Saugatuck, this peaceful season allows you to embrace the quiet winter wonderland at the edge of Lake Michigan.
Your home-away-from-home, The Hotel Saugatuck offers a tranquil setting to experience a unique combination of intimate moments and refreshing art exhibits. At the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, the internationally acclaimed Humanæ project makes its Midwest debut and is on display until March 7. A collection of portraits that reveal the diverse beauty of human colors, created by Madrid-based photographer Angelica Dass, has traveled to more than 30 countries across six continents to promote dialogue that challenges how we think about skin color and ethnic identity. On Friday, February 28 the Center is offering a reception beginning at 5:00 p.m. and a concert at 7:00 p.m., both of which are free to the public. The concert by “The Reminders”, an acclaimed musical duo, is comprised of Brussels-born emcee Big Samir and Queens-born emcee/vocalist Aja Black, who “bring their unique mashup of razor sharp rhymes; raw, soulful vocals; and reggae-tinged hip hop beats to Saugatuck.”
The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls. – Pablo Picasso
