Start at the Santa Fe Trading Company, where you’ll find various men’s and women’s clothing tastefully curated with their “Southwestern Lifestyle” aesthetic. Across from Wicks Park (a gathering place during every season, whether to picnic and watch the boats in the summer or check out the lit-up Christmas tree during the holidays, you’ll find the vibrant and worldly Lucia’s World Emporium. With their focus on fair trade and importing from around the globe, browsing their store offers a Saugatuck boutique shopping experience unlike anywhere else – it’s a lively marketplace for beautiful artisanship ranging from handwoven baskets from West Africa to handmade pottery from Guatemala. Although closed during the winter months, during the summer, head across from Lucia’s to the Saugatuck Chain Ferry. Dating back to the mid-19th century and the only hand-cranked ferry still functioning in the country, riding aboard it across the Kalamazoo River is a truly memorable experience. In addition to being a quick way to cross the water and access the trails at Mt. Baldhead or head for a day in the sun at Oval Beach, it’s a living and treasured piece of our local history.

At Endora, you’ll find a space where the owner, Layne, artfully displays her “cabinet of curiosities,” all chosen for their unique style and purchased locally and from afar. Elaborate Turkish rugs hang alongside a lovely collection of silk kimonos, while candles, tarot cards, and astrology decks add a mystical and new-age touch. Strike up a conversation with the owner and learn more about her “Layne’s Faves” section, which includes specially chosen art, jewelry, and apparel picks.
Lakeshore Pet Boutique

After grabbing a seasonal latte (try the spiced praline or peppermint mocha) at Respite Cappuccino Company, head into Lakeshore Pet Boutique to pick up a playful gift for your furry friend in the family. After opening just before the pandemic and thankfully surviving the shutdown, Lakeshore owners Randy and Anna are proudly the only independent pet store in town, offering health-conscious treats and walls of toys for your dog or cat.
